The Brain- Gut Axis

Hey all of my amazing people.

How's your gut? What are your gut instincts? What is your gut telling you? Come on people I have been saying it all along, you have to listen to your gut. Train your gut... head will follow. I think I should change the title of my book! Do you think my publicist would go for that????

I know by now you are all moving throughout your day, but there are a few other tidbits to being healthy besides just working out and meditating. Yes, Yes, Yes, you know you have to eat all that good stuff to look and feel great too. The mind - body connection is not going away my friends. It really does work all together.

Now, I know some of you are really clean eaters, as for me… Well… I do my best. For the most part I follow the 80-20 rule, 80% clean, 20% whatever, I do love my pizza after all. I believe life is a balance, and so are your eating habits, but we have to bring it up now. I am sure you have heard all about it, well at least those of you in the know. It is all about Gut Health. Come on, you know what I am talking about. How your gut health affects your whole life? It is called the Brain-Gut Axis. Instead of your mind telling your stomach how to feel, like anxiety making your tummy hurt, what you eat and how happy the little people in your stomach are, the less anxiety you will have. How crazy is that? It is now train your gut… head will follow!

Here is a quote from the Director of Simplex Health, Emily Benton right here at Weston Fitness. She has been doing a lot of research on this topic with all of this new information coming out right now.

“There are over 100 trillion bacteria in your microbiome in your gut. The healthier the gut, the more diversity of the bacteria. Obesity and disease is highly associated with lower diversity of microbes. Now, your gut is being referred to at ‘the body’s second brain’. There is a strong connection between brain functioning and gut health. This relationship is called the brain-gut axis. For example, the neurotransmitter associated with happiness is Serotonin, and 90% of it is made in the digestive tract.”

How crazy is that? There are so many ways to boost your mood and stop dwelling on negative things. You could eat some veggies, meditate, move for a little… the possibilities are endless. The best part about this brain and gut connection is that you can reverse your unhealthy gut past. Even if you have eaten pizza and cookies and icecream exclusively your whole life and your little friends are unhappy and making you feel unhappy, you could start eating veggies today and your body and brain will feel amazing. It is never too late.

You guys know what to do. Eat healthier, just a little bit. All I am asking for is awareness. Now, your body won’t just feel great, but your brain will too. Have so much fun.
